Echoes of a Former You & Other Ghostly Murmurings

A gut-wrenching collection featuring 17 works of short fiction centered around the horrors of motherhood and the perils faced by women across time, space, and history.

In Echoes of a Former You & Other Ghostly Murmurings, Christa Carmen returns to short form fiction with four new tales and thirteen previously-published works centered around the horrors of motherhood and the perils faced by women across time, space, and history. Including the Bram Stoker Award-nominated “Through the Looking Glass and Straight into Hell” (“...it is Christa Carmen’s heartbreakingly honest look at ‘recovery’ that is the star here, a story that is sure to end up on many speculative fiction year-end award lists.” —Library Journal), Echoes of a Former You explores fear like only a woman can know.

Every door in a woman’s home disappears overnight, replaced by one hundred windows through which a monstrous creature can observe her. A mother’s scheme to outsmart the witch with whom she made a deal goes horribly, wolfishly wrong. A former addict must decide whether to face sobriety on her own or else engage in a virtual reality recovery simulation. Two squirrels converse in an attic made abandoned by the disappearance of everyone on earth and amuse themselves with the relics of humanity.
