Rule of Thirds: A Novel

For fans of Go as a River and The Four Winds comes a debut women’s historical novel about love, loyalty, and the search for self in the 1960s American South.

The summer of 1969 shimmers with possibility in the Mississippi Gulf Coast town of Biloxi, and twenty-year-old Rose Guidry intends to seize every moment of it. Restless, reckless, and burning with ambition, she dreams of becoming a photojournalist and leaving her small world far behind. That is, until a chance encounter with a Keesler airman bound for Vietnam pulls her into something she never expected and Rose finds herself caught in a current stronger than her will.

But when tides turn and growing storm Hurricane Camille sets its sights on Biloxi, the storm strips away everything Rose knows—her family’s home, their livelihood, and the future she imagined—in a single catastrophic night. Uprooted to Texas with her father and sister, she must rebuild from the rubble. As long-buried secrets rise to the surface, Rose is forced to confront an unsettling truth: Some of her wounds were dealt by those who loved her most, and some she brought upon herself.

Lyrical and achingly human, The Rule of Thirds is a story about the storms we survive and the uncertain tides that shape who we become.
