Piper & May Take a Breath

Two foxes weather a thunderstorm together using breathing and other grounding techniques in this gorgeous and lyrical picture book perfect for fans of Tomie dePaola’s Quiet and Gabi Snyder’s Listen.

Piper and May have the same fluffy tail, the same perky ears, and the same wet noses. But they are also very different. Piper doesn’t waste a second and dives head-first into everything. May prefers to take her time.

When a thunderstorm forces the foxes to take shelter in a hollow tree, bold Piper is scared—until May encourages her to breathe, feel the ground beneath her paws, and imagine how wonderful it will be when the rain stops. With effective calming techniques and a different perspective offered by a friend, Piper slows down, connects with the world around her, and waits out the storm.
