Unlikely Pear!: A Star Chapter Book

Star Chapter Books are the perfect bridge for kids moving beyond beginning readers but not yet ready for longer chapter books. With short chapters, bold two-color illustrations, and fast-paced, funny stories, these confidence-building books make reading fun and rewarding.

A pie-eating vampire and a pear-loving werewolf form an unlikely friendship and join forces to enter a baking competition in this charming first book in the Vinnie and Ru series!

While other vampires turn into bats at night and scare humans, Vinnie would rather bake pies—because he is a vampiere. While other werewolves are busy howling at the moon, Ru prefers working in his pear orchard—because he is a pearwolf.

Vinnie is entering a pie-baking competition and needs to find the perfect ingredients, so he takes all the pears from Ru’s orchard! Ru is not happy. But when Vinnie and Ru meet and discover they have a lot in common, they become friends and decide to enter the contest as a team. Will their pie be a success? Or is the myth true—that vampieres and pearwolves can never be friends?

Each Star Chapter Book is 112 pages long, divided into six to eight short chapters with illustrated panels on every page to keep kids engaged from start to finish. This highly visual early chapter book format supports the transition from leveled readers to chapter books, making Star Chapter Books a perfect fit for independent reading, classroom libraries, or shared story time.
