Beyond the Badge

From the banks of the Kennebec River to the remote island outposts off the coast of Maine, retired game warden Roland Tilton spent decades chasing those who believed the rules didn’t apply at night. Some were careless. Some were clever. And some were downright colorful. Beyond the Badge is a collection of true stories from Roland’s years serving as a game warden across the state of Maine. The book captures the reality of enforcing fish and wildlife laws, working with hunters and fishermen, tracking poachers, and navigating the peculiar mix of humor, danger, and community that defines rural Maine. Carrying readers through a life of adventure with humor, heart, and honesty, Roland lifts the curtain on a career few truly understand, and the personal journey that continues long after the shift ends. Whether you’ve lived in Maine all your life or only dreamed of escaping to the North Country — this is a ride-along you’ll never forget.
