Drawing on his forty years of experience working in schools across the USA, Dr Frome explains how spirituality plays an essential role in the lives and work of teachers, especially in secular settings. Drawing on world religions, moral philosophy, literature, the visual arts, psychology, neuroscience and physics, Not a Faculty But A Light seeks to understand the nature of this spiritual energy, why it is so important to teachers and their students, and how acknowledging and nurturing its power can help with the current crisis of meaning and purpose in education. The book concludes with a provocative proposal for a mode of school prayer that transcends liberal/conservative lines by focusing on prayer as a source of energy rather than as a vehicle for indoctrination.
