Son of Ember

A high-stakes, epic fantasy series debut about an orphan trapped in a perilous situation where magic will be his destruction or salvation, from beloved book content creator Luke Bateman.

Fourteen-year-old Aeyun Dawns lives in Edge, a small logging town where not much happens. He doesn't fit in with the other boys, preferring to spend his time playing alone in the Darkwood forest; life would be lonely, if not for the steady presence of his beloved mother. But one day, out of the blue, a man in glowing armour shows up at their cottage and murders his mother, forcing Aeyun to flee the only home he’s ever known.

Eventually, he finds himself in an orphanage, under the steady guidance of its wise caretaker, Father Dornald. Once Aeyun is settled, with new friends who become family, he focuses on discovering the identity of his mother’s killer and unearthing the mysterious past she kept hidden from him. Is it possible his mother was a Weaver, a person who wields forbidden magic? The thought is inconceivable to Aeyun. What does this mean for his future?

In the years that follow, Aeyun focuses on gaining the strength and skill required to become a warrior in the Fist, an elite military force sworn to eradicate Weavers. But as time passes, he discovers not everyone is who they claim to be, and that his mother's past holds a secret that will plunge the world into chaos...
