Lessons from the Lodge

This groundbreaking book from health care professional and certified executive coach Dr. Marcia Anderson blends Western and Indigenous teachings to redefine what it means to lead, heal, and belong while offering readers a transformative path forward to reclaiming joy, purpose, and collective power. Lessons from the Lodge is sure to inspire readers at all phases of their career and life journey.

Dr. Anderson has spent decades on the front lines of health care—working in hospitals, public health institutions, and social justice organizations in some of the most challenging roles and difficult times imaginable. As an Indigenous woman and a leader in the medical field, she’s no stranger to racialized and colonial violence.

In Lessons from the Lodge, she shares her healing and leadership journey through the echelons of Western Medicine to becoming a certified Executive Coach, that alongside all she has learned from her Anishinaabe, Dakota, and Inninew teachers, has helped her find the truest and most impactful version of herself as a leader and human.

Unfolding like its own coaching course, with each chapter prompting reflection and further inquiry, Lessons from the Lodge is a wellness book like no other. Dr. Anderson shares her healing journey from burnout to joy; guides readers who want to create a life of purpose, peace, creativity and impact; and illustrates how the transformational healing work we do for ourselves is essential for the transformational healing of all our relations.

Lessons from the Lodge will inspire and equip Indigenous, Black and racially marginalized women, specifically, and all leaders, generally, in pursuit of their most joyful, connected, and impactful selves. A groundbreaking blend of memoir and leadership guide, this book redefines what it means to lead, heal, and belong, offering a transformative path forward for those ready to reclaim joy, purpose, and collective power.
