Secret of the Long Spoon: A Wholehearted American's Unconventional Road Map from Survival to Significance

The highest ascent belongs to those who lift others—The Secret of the Long Spoon is a powerful reminder that the surest path to success, significance, and lasting fulfillment begins with serving someone else first.

The Secret of the Long Spoon is the extraordinary true story of a seventeen-year-old who left Iran amid revolution, arrived in America with faith and determination, and built a life that bears witness to a profound truth: We are all born with a spoon longer than our arms—too long to feed ourselves, but perfectly designed to feed one another. The moment we feed others, the universe starts feeding us. For Hamid Andalib, this is more than a theory or a philosophy. It is the law of the universe, written into every human heart—and his life is his testimony to its power.

With little money and no English, Hamid washed dishes, slept on floors, and pursued an education while confronting poverty and learning disabilities. Through opportunity and devastating setbacks, he discovered that we can lift others even while finding our own footing.

An entrepreneur and recipient of the 2026 Ellis Island Medal of Honor, Andalib built multiple businesses, including a rewards and incentives company with annual revenue exceeding $120 million. Another ranked No. 209 on the 2019 Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies, achieving nearly 2,000 percent revenue growth over three years. Yet the measure that matters most to him is the difference he makes in other people’s lives.

Through candid stories of courage, faith, generosity, and reinvention, The Secret of the Long Spoon invites readers to discover the significance within their own reach. You do not have to wait until you are successful to make a difference. You can begin wherever you are, with whatever you have.

The spoon is already in your hands.
