Moon's More Feeble Fire

Pathologist Dr. Jack Cuthbert is called in to investigate when a string of gruesome murders in 1930s London leave Scotland Yard wondering if they have a new Jack the Ripper on their hands in this clever follow-up to The Silent House of Sleep.

She was someone's daughter . . .

In 1930, the killing of a Soho prostitute is hardly a priority for Scotland Yard. But when a second and then a third woman are killed in suspiciously similar circumstances, the officers sit up and take notice. Could this be the work of a new Ripper-like serial killer? Only one person can find out: tall and striking but harboring dark secrets of his own, Scottish pathologist Dr. Jack Cuthbert dedicates his formidable mind to the latest developments in the new science of forensics.

Dr. Cuthbert’s investigation takes him deep into London’s underbelly, where the vices of drugs, prostitution, and human trafficking proliferate across class divides. The forensic puzzle of the three murdered women presents one of the most baffling cases of his career. But one faded photograph may just hold the answers he has been seeking.
