feverish dome / decir bóveda: poems / poemas

This collection of transcreation serves as a powerful introduction to Lara-Bonilla, bringing her work to readers of both English and Spanish.

“The passport of poetry is worn on the skin,” Inmaculada Lara-Bonilla writes in this meditative, deeply personal bilingual collection. Rather than merely translating her poems from Spanish to English, the author engages in acts of self-translation that tease out the most powerful rhythm and images of each language, allowing each individual poem to stand on its own in both. These poems speak in a dreamlike tone to explore complex social and personal histories, illustrating how we each live inside our bodies and interact with the world around us, moving through space and time as though through a dreamscape to emerge as something unique, both of and beyond the everyday world.
